Retirement song

Morris dancing is now over

Not just for one more day

The handkerchiefs are all still

There will be no more play

You liked to dance and jingle

To shake a merry foot

Without thinking of the future

When silence rules the shoot

They loved you as you capered

Or so they always said

Only now as darkness gathers

The photos fade to red

Your dance no one remembers

The passing time is cruel

If anybody thinks of you

They conjure up a fool

But perhaps you'll give one final show

Just for the old time's sake

Applause will ring out loud and long

From a never ending tape
